GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
Pastel Rita is a new café and workshop-boutique located in Mile End. The Montreal-based firm, APPAREIL Architecture, was entrusted with the task of creating the environment for the multifunctional premises. The challenge was to contend with the different zones in the 1 500 sq ft space, while respecting a modest budget. Their approach was to create a unique universe composed of audacious but soft colours and a variety of shapes, to give richness to the decor. By combining colours and textures, simple elements are amplified to create an optimal effect. Notable is the custom-made furniture, created using affordable painted materials, which enhanced the works in the studio. “Paint was really well-used in this smallbudget project,” expressed the jury. “The superimposition of colours is æsthetically pleasing. The result is very successful, and an excellent balance emerges.”
