ON

Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Williamsburg Brooklyn, retailer On has opened one of its most recent outlets. The brand originated in Switzerland more than 10 years ago with the goal of helping runners to feel as though they were “running on clouds”. This goal became the inspiration behind the brand name “On”.

SAJO was chosen by the On team to create an enriching customer experience in the Brooklyn store. The brand is currently on a fast track to reach more and more runners the world over and so it was vitally important that the store reflect this.

By arranging footwear according to their performance attributes and storing them inside a concealed “magic wall” manufactured in an aluminum/stainless steel combo, customers are able to pull out each segment of the wall, allowing easy access to the entire footwear collection.

Apparel is a recent addition to the store’s offerings. Clothing is displayed under LED lighting to best showcase each collection. The store also boasts an LED wall that simulates colours found in the natural environment.

A variety of finishes were used throughout the store. Cimento tile was installed on the sales floor, giving it a cohesive cement-like look. Grey plaster was utilized on the podium stairs as well as on some of the walls. The “earth wall” behind the podium steps on the second floor is a plaster wall composed of different tones of blue, simulating layers of earth.

The store’s ceiling is reminiscent of the night sky and is of two heights. The lower one at 12 feet, is finished in a blue stucco while the upper ceiling, standing at 22 feet, is constructed of a corrugated metal painted a deep blue. The perimeter soffit is clad in blue mirrors.

An elevator was installed on the premises by SAJO. The On design team had requested that the shaft be painted in a metallic blue. Working together, it took 3 attempts to get the exact shade the team was after.

The second floor of the store does not contain any merchandise but serves as a community hub, hosting classes, presentations, etc. In keeping with On’s philosophy of accessibility to all, it can be reconfigured to play host to a range of events.

Already a popular venue, On is off to a great start in its new Brooklyn location!
