GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition

Discipline : Interior Design

Categories : Commercial Space / Commercial Space ≤ 1,600 sq.ft. (≤ 150 sq.m.) : Gold Certification

Categories : Special Awards / Interior Design +Wood

Categories : Special Awards / Interior Design + Lighting

The mandate of the project was to produce a space to showcase boutique Ocean Bou’s swimwear and resort wear collections. The objective for the space was to create a sense of lightness, with bright colors in the space that would bring about a sense of desire for the beach.

The clothing racks are designed to integrate into the space, using  gold, to bring about a warm element of luxury. The wood adds a warm contrast and the linear repetition create a sense of visual calm. The existing floor was stripped and polished to reveal a natural maple grain.

Ample indirect lighting was used in order to illuminate without the harshness of direct lighting. Indirect lighting serves to hi light the material surfaces in their three dimensionality, sheen, and volume. The pendant light fixtures selected express whimsy and recall a beach theme with sun hats, and abstract winged creatures. (Vertigo Pendant by Constance Guisset for Petite Friture, Papillon Pendant by Elise Fouin for Forestier).

The clothing racks are configured to accommodate the variety of clothing dimensions, with the circular displays hi lighting key pieces such as two-piece swimsuits. Dressing rooms are spacious and private with lighting planned to flatter the user while trying on clothing pieces that may cause the user to feel more vulnerability.

The haloed alcove creates a moment of surprise, such that each moment is visually interesting when walking through and experiencing the boutique from each angle, both while entering, and departing.

Different block volumes and surfaces allow for adapting displays of a variety of clothing and accessories while doubling as storage in some cases. Deep drawers are concealed throughout the boutique beneath displays to provide easy to access products, leaving larger merchandise for the storage room.

The custom anchor display makes a statement from the street, visible to cars and pedestrians. It creates an iconic landmark for the boutique.
