The idea stems from the intention to carry out a conservative renovation project on a desecrated Jewish church, transforming a former warehouse into a prestigious luxury loft. The approximately 100 square meter area is divided into two levels: first floor and mezzanine. The first floor of about 70 square meters has a height of 8 meters, at the highest point, and is characterized by a keystone that refers to the typical masks found in Castel del Monte. To access the mezzanine, of about 30 square meters, a sculptural spiral staircase in steel delabrè has been inserted with a rough charm and refined in style with finishes designed for the project. Most of the walls have been peeled and cleaned by hand, highlighting the tuff and historic stone. The contrasting materials used are consistent with the history of the place and especially close to the traditions of the region, with a contemporary touch. The presence of stone as a building and finishing material influenced the project choices, placing the materiality and essentiality of the materials at the center of the design choices. With reuse and ecology as fundamental principles, all subsequent design choices were based on eco-sustainability: zero-impact air conditioning/air handling systems were designed, both architecturally and from an emissions perspective.
