GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Residence / Residential Tower & Condominium Project - Common Space : Platinum Winner
« The (Quartier Général)stands out as a unique project in the heart of Griffintown’s industrial district in Montreal. When Prével Group approached us to design the interior of this project, the directive was clear: create a human-scale achievement, placing the human at the center of the experience to ensure tangible well-being. The architects brilliantly responded to this request by shaping a vegetated pedestrian alley that traverses the project, leading to a street lined with shops, conducive to warm gatherings. Inspired by the architects’ sketches, we drew from industrial aesthetics to shape our common spaces, always emphasizing the human aspect.
Upon entering the lobby, a warm and welcoming atmosphere emerges, opening onto a lush courtyard bathed in natural light. Our goal was to create a relaxation space, reminiscent of a hotel lobby where people are invited to sit, have a coffee, or even work. To this end, we have designed several areas, including lounges or workspaces, thus fostering the creation of a small community at the heart of the project, offering the clientele of the Headquarters an enriching experience rather than just a thoroughfare.
The design of the pool presented a particular challenge, as it was located underground without direct access to natural light. The addition of skylights by the architects allowed us to harness the entry of natural light onto a vegetated wall, completely transforming the appearance of the underground pool. The integration of black and white ceramic tiles reminiscent of public baths from the industrial era, as well as generous glass walls bordered by black metal tiles reminiscent of Griffintown’s industrial aesthetic, were installed between the gym and the pool to maximize the depth of natural light. The image of the diver on the left wall encourages training sessions in this 40-foot pool, offering three swimming lanes.
As for the terraces, we sought to recreate an atmosphere reminiscent of trendy Brooklyn hotels, with sand, fire pits, subtle and relaxed lighting. The rooftop pool thus becomes a privileged place to relax in the sun, in small cabanas offering breathtaking views of downtown. »
