Plan particulier d’urbanisme – Secteur Moco

By : Domus architecture + design urbain

GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition

Discipline : Landscape & Territories

Categories : Urban Design / Urban Design Plan

Categories : Urban Design / Civic Design Project : Silver Certification

With a view to fostering social, economic and environmental vitality for current and future generations, the City of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield wishes to focus on the optimal use of vacant and underutilized land. Faced with an issue linked to the lack of housing on its territory, the City commissioned Domus architecture+design urbain, which had produced an initial master plan for the Quartier Moco, to plan the Plan particulier d’urbanisme (PPU) for the Moco sector.

The planning of Quartier Moco proposes different real estate development parameters in order to create a coherent and cohesive whole from which emanates a development vision that ties together several social, economic and environmental issues. By imagining the neighborhood of tomorrow, we will be able to offer a sustainable and convivial living environment for all. The viability and sustainability of Quartier Moco are the cornerstones of a development based on density, diversity and the environment, all built around public spaces and outdoor amenities.

From these elements, the development fondations on which the Quartier Moco project is based are:

– The planning of a central axis with a sinuous layout, offering interesting views into the neighborhood;

– The development of an efficient and minimal vehicular network, both public and private, to ensure fluid traffic flow and efficient access to the various buildings;

– The development of public and central spaces as gathering and socializing places, contributing to the identity of the Quartier Moco;

– A network of active transportation throughout the project, connecting to the surrounding neighborhood and creating safe, alternative routes to the proposed road network;

– Residential densification and the presence and distribution of local commercial uses on the territory.
