Redesign of a semi-detached single-family home, including an extension to the first floor and the addition of a terrace. The rear extension is a monochrome black volume that contrasts with the original brick cladding. It is enlivened by the linear pattern of light filtering through the clerestory framing an intimate terrace, located in its extension.
Inside, the addition has opened up the dark, partitioned spaces on the first floor. The new surface area made it possible to insert a powder room, reconnect the kitchen and dining room, and add a reading area. The entire property looks out onto a quiet, leafy garden.
Following on from the main entrance, the corridor opens onto the open-plan living area through two curved walls, providing a smooth, flowing circulation. A storage alcove isolates the powder room and gives privacy to the dining room.
The kitchen features a generous island with rounded corners, tactile and sensual. It aligns with a work area defined on the floor by large beige porcelain tiles. This alignment also continues through the cabinets lacquered in the same color on the opposite wall. The beige cameo arrangement of materials is framed at the ends by white oak-finish cabinets and hardwood flooring. On the wall, the cooking area is a stone alcove housing cabinets with delicate fluted doors.
The open-plan layout plunges us into a hushed, enveloping and soothing space. The effect is enhanced by the materiality of the beige shades, playing on textures rather than contrasts. Shapes interact with each other in soft curves.
