GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition
Discipline : Landscape & Territories
Categories : Urban Design / Civic Design Project : Silver Certification
Located on one of the main commercial arteries of the Ste-Foy university district, Parc Myrand is among the award-winning destinations for families and students looking for a few minutes’ rest. Framed on one side by a Church, a restaurant business and community buildings, this alcove of greenery punctuating the urban fabric offers a unique destination with a diverse character.
The project presented targets a parcel of the park. The desired redevelopment of this intervention area sought to abolish a former paddling pool with the aim of creating a relaxation, water play and retention area where visitors would have the opportunity to refresh themselves or simply enjoy a prêt-à-emporter in this unique site.
The project presented targets an area of the park.
Structured by an architectural form vocabulary of broken lines and trapezoids extruded from the ground, the central space is intended as an informal agora where diverse perspectives of the environment are revealed through a random orientation of its landings and steps. In this way, each view imposed by this architectural origami allows a progressive discovery of the park and the host environment. In support of the architectural concept, the play of materials further eloquently conveys the design intent. The integration of various jets on the ground contributes to the animation and comfort of the space, particularly in periods of great heat.
.
With eco-responsibility in mind, targeted engineering interventions have enabled the agora to accommodate rainwater by way of a retention basin, lightly supported by the flowerbeds distributed around the perimeter of the intervention area. The preservation of the existing canopy and the addition of diversified plant strata contributed to the enhancement of urban forestry and demonstrated a desire to create biodiverse environments.
