The Marché Central project illustrates a visionary transformation of a former industrial site into a verdant commercial parking lot that incorporates the best practices of sustainable development. Unlike asphalt parking lots that create hollow teeth in urban development, this project is an example of balance between vehicular utility and landscape integration.
This ambitious project has given rise to 12-metre-wide green corridors winding through the parking islands. These verdant arteries create a lively buffer zone between spaces of vehicular traffic, offering pedestrians an immersive experience. What’s more, these green corridors also have an ecological function as they incorporate retention and infiltration basins to maximize stormwater absorption and minimize runoff.
The first phase of the project saw the planting of over 600 trees, establishing a robust ecosystem and welcoming landscape. To complement this, more than 10,000 shrubs, perennials and grasses have been planted within the green corridors, forming a dense and diverse carpet of vegetation. This new plant biodiversity will create refuge areas for wildlife and attract bees, butterflies and birds.

An innovative lighting strategy was developed in collaboration with experts, to illuminate the site with a soft light that respects the night sky, avoiding any light pollution. The careful integration of urban furniture enriches the experience for users, while a safe pedestrian route invites the discovery of a unique landscape experience, where every step is in harmony with nature.
