GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 15th edition
Discipline : Architecture
Categories : Other categories in architecture / Facade : Gold Certification
Our first façade is brick and terrazzo, restored to its original 1930's state, framed by 2 stories of black grid windowpanes and an organic designed steel gate. The brick wall is held together by 2 supporting walls that have been treated with the same cement as inside with black steel beams mimicking the gate and outer stairs. The staircase represents a throwback to the stairs that are visible throughout plateau Mont-Royal. Once through, you are welcomed into an open ceiling courtyard, an oasis of greenery, with birch, dogwoods, and blooming perennials. Free form granite pavers lead you to glass bridge and to the inner façade, a modern, 3-story, 40-foot glass wall. With time, the inner walls will be framed by lush vines. When entering we are transported from the original street to an urban and contemporary oasis. 3553 Saint-Laurent brings an undeniable interest to the public and splendour to all who enter.
Our two facades with our mix of materials juxtapose the old and new with the urban garden marrying the two, evoking the past, present and future in one place.
