Mile Public House

GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 7th édition

Twenty years ago in Brossard, three large trees in the middle of a vast field became the meeting point for a group of young people. Inspired by the novelistic story of this friendship, Mile Public House located in Quartier Dix30 is an urban pub inhabited by a quaint charm.

Upon arrival, the facade sets the stage for visitors. A typographic tree inlaid in stone frames the discreet entrance, and recalls the friendship story. Inside, plywood panels are adorned with sketches of characters along with playful texts, creating a theatrical movement and a cheerful atmosphere.

Features from the traditional pub were carried over, such as the almost hidden entrance, the terrace with its large doors and even the snug; the small private room was reserved to the ladies, and it had window with access to the bar that allowed them to order discretely. A tall poplar, which was once the gathering place of friends, was transformed into a 48 feet bar surface; a creation that recycles material, and recaptures an emotion.

The concept of this project realised by HUMÀ design + architecture transports the visitor into a movie where the promises of past friendships come back to life before his eyes; a remarkable work that indisputably received the jury’s attention in the category Bar, Lounge and Nightclub.
