PAQ is an Aboriginal organization that supports First Nations, Inuit and Métis people facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià: ke / Montreal. Using a culturally appropriate approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, the organization provides housing options, accommodation and services that promote wellness and healing, and strengthen the community.
2Architectures was mandated to carry out the redevelopment of the building located at 1019-1025 St-Hubert Street in order to establish a shelter for Montreal Aboriginal women and men experiencing homelessness, loss of autonomy and addiction.
The project includes permanent housing for the Aboriginal population of Montreal, individual and collective spaces, premises for the permanent installation of the alcohol management program, offices for the workers and assistants present 24/7 as well as premises for clinical and psychological care.
The intervention on the old building required sensitivity and respect for the heritage. The work consisted of the reorganization of the interior spaces in order to meet the requirements of the organization and to bring the building up to standard.
2Architectures worked to set up bright and friendly collective spaces, and to create clear and easily appropriable rooms for the users. As part of this project, EVOQ developed native installations that contribute to the identity of the place and the creation of a home.
