On the waterfront, not far from Montreal, this vast residence has been extensively renovated to make room for a work of art in its own right. Catherine Séguin Design was mandated to design this project by the owners of the residence, who wanted to bring a contemporary interior design to the house, while creating a warm and joyful atmosphere, where it feels good to live with family. As thrill seekers, the result also needed to create emotions of surprise and new and positive feelings of admiration. Like an eclipse, the past of this house has disappeared to make way for a new version of itself. This is the Contemporary Eclipse, where the surpassing of expectations comes into play, in the unity and diversity of the textures and materials that come together, by the accent colors that give off vivid emotions and by the light that shines and reflects in many ways, giving rhythm to day and night. The magic exhilarates you, the mystery transports you, and the passage in any room will not leave you indifferent.
Beyond the textures, colors and lighting, the volumetry of the rooms has been worked with precision, leaving not a floor, wall or ceiling untouched on more than 12,000 square feet. The geometry of the spaces based on the architect's plans, the shapes of the furnishings and the patterns were studied and worked out with meticulousness. Large spaces are a great challenge to make cozy. This is why the arrangement of materials, shapes and colors is so important to create balance. There are few white gypsum walls in this home and when there are, there is an intention. As soon as we walk through the front door, we are overcome with a hypnotic desire to move through the house, to discover the next ingenuity, to be amazed by the arrangements. This feeling of ecstasy is what differentiates a design project from a Catherine Séguin Design project.
According to our philosophy, the creative process must always begin by listening to the needs and tastes of the homeowners. Communication is the key to any excellent design. The integration of the various functions of the rooms is part of the creative process. Here, the durability of materials, the choice of functional accessories and ergonomics have been considered in conjunction with aesthetics and the effect of grandeur. It is the exchanges and the sharing of ideas between the owners and the designer that makes this house so perfect, intelligent and unique. No detail was left untouched, each room was given the attention and respect it deserved, making it one with functionality and beauty.
The owners, contractors, architects, subcontractors, artisans, artists and suppliers, whether they are showcasing the expertise of Quebec companies or from abroad, should be proud of what they have brought to this grandiose project.
