L’Archiv: A Collaborative and Innovative Project for Heritage Preservation
By: Construction Vilan inc.
Construction Vilan Inc. is a company that focuses on creating open, bright, and comfortable living spaces while ensuring exceptional quality in the design and execution of its commercial and residential projects. The company specializes in the restoration of historic buildings, and ensures that the historical and cultural value of the buildings is maintained while integrating innovative technologies. This approach is evident in the L’Archiv project in Vieux-Terrebonne, where Construction Vilan worked in collaboration with experts to preserve the history and unique character of the neighborhood while adding stimulating co-working spaces and modern residential spaces.
At first glance, it is clear that the company’s goal is to create a lively environment that promotes cooperation and innovation while celebrating the cultural heritage of the community. Therefore, the co-working spaces integrated into the project offer entrepreneurs and independent workers an inspiring, positive, and participatory work environment, while the modern residential spaces offer unparalleled comfort and convenience in a historic and charming setting. In fact, Construction Vilan has chosen to make this project its headquarters, demonstrating its commitment to the importance of rehabilitation and heritage preservation.
The L’Archiv project, initiated by Construction Vilan, is not just a physical structure, but rather a dynamic platform that encourages collaboration and stimulation among building users. That is why the development and construction team emphasizes the harmonious integration of the building into its environment by integrating many antique elements, such as certain pieces of furniture, as well as some more modern elements, to represent the new heritage created by L’Archiv, such as a rest area with synthetic turf flooring. The quality of the materials, the restoration and preservation of the cultural heritage in the historic sector of Vieux-Terrebonne are also cornerstones of the project.
As mentioned previously, Construction Vilan’s approach to design favors the harmonious integration of the building into its surroundings and the preservation of architectural heritage. Design decisions were made on the premise that the physical structure of a building should reflect its history and environment. Thus, by integrating original wooden beams into the building’s design, the designers were able to preserve the natural elements and architectural styles of the neighborhood. For the exterior cladding, a brick staining technique was used to ensure the perfect integration of each brick into the design and context.
Parallelly, L’Archiv‘s design is characterized by a strong luminosity and a great openness, creating spaces that are favorable for comfort and well-being. Some renovations have been carried out to ensure the efficiency and durability of the building, such as the replacement of electrical and plumbing systems as well as asbestos decontamination. In light of all of the above, it is possible to witness Construction Vilan’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
As an environmentally friendly project, L’Archiv is designed to be sustainable and long-lasting thanks to its coherence in the neighboring architectural landscape and the quality of construction. Therefore, the building ensures that it does not fall into disuse and guarantees durability over time. The design team believes that architecture and design should inspire positivity through art and beauty. It is also interesting to note that in addition to being inspired by buildings in Old-Terrebonne in its design, the project was also inspired by centuries-old European constructions that have stood the test of time.
In addition, the designers chose to honor their partnership with local organizations by proudly displaying several artifacts in the building. A notable example is the stuffed eagle, affectionately named Louis, which recalls the street where L’Archiv is located. It was offered to Construction Vilan by a local organization, symbolizing the importance the company places on collaboration and community. In the same spirit, the preservation of the history of restored and repurposed buildings has been integrated into the design of L’Archiv, with unique objects representing the history of each building highlighted. One can thus find many old books, newspaper articles, and secured munitions.
Moreover, one of the main objectives of the design of L’Archiv is to promote participation and enthusiasm among the building’s users. Several collaborative spaces have been created to allow people to come together and work towards a common goal. The project designers believe that fostering a convergent environment leads to higher quality results and increased well-being for those involved.
As a result, a « memorial » space has been integrated into the design of L’Archiv, honoring Construction Vilan and its subsidiaries’ employees, key moments, and values. This place of remembrance contains plaques honoring retired employees, as well as a values binder called « The Grand Book of Memories, » which contains photos, emails, and other documents representing Vilan’s team spirit and collaboration. Artifacts related to the creation of the company are also on display, making this space a tribute to the shared history of the building and those who contributed to its transformation.
It is important to note that Construction Vilan recognizes the importance of creating a sense of community and belonging to the place. The company’s projects, including L’Archiv, take into account the surrounding community and seek to integrate the building into its historical and cultural context. The creators of L’Archiv have thus designed a space that harmonizes with the other buildings in the neighborhood, respecting its history, culture, and traditions.
Construction Vilan is a company deeply proud of the quality of its work. It strives to deliver outstanding results for each of its projects, and this is particularly evident in the design and construction of L’Archiv, its headquarters. The company is committed to exceeding its clients’ expectations, paying attention to details, and seeking to create spaces that are both functional, efficient, and durable. For Construction Vilan, good design is not just about aesthetics; it must also be practical and meet the needs of users while being environmentally friendly and sustainable.
