Celebrating 20 years of collaboration between a non-profit organisation and its architects, this ephemeral installation was an opportunity to design a scenic space unifying the artistic community of the region. Under the theme “The Magic is Outside”, this veranda was intended to be a space for cultural representations in the heart of the gardens, a stage of expression and playful dissemination. This installation symbolizes the porch of an archetypal house. Its walls fade to reveal the free plan of an open-air house. It invites people to enter and wonder, stimulating both the public’s and the artists’ imagination. The conceptual process of this installation was highly iterative : several forms have been simultaneously explored, both in sketches and models. It then become possible to identify various concepts metamorphosing the spatial perception of the veranda, such as the grid, plans, frames, surfaces, etc. It defined at the same time constructive strategies and induced the refinement of proportions and structural rhythmic. Made up of standard pieces of wood, the installation is both simple and grandiose, a quiet eloquence. It democratizes what is and what can be architecture, transposing the collective imagination into a space of communion. Its large blank and hollow walls allow infinite combinations and adaptations. Thus, the guest artistes have a large sense of freeness when invited to perform into, within and with this installation.
