GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition
Discipline : Construction & Real Estate : Grand Winner, Award of the Year Winner
Categories : Construction / Commercial Construction : Platinum Winner
A major player in the Lower Laurentians’ agritourism and perfumery sector for over 15 years, family-run Masion Lavande needed to relocate and expand its production centre, La Fabrique des Filles, in order to centralize its product design and manufacturing activities, and equip itself with a larger production area for its various lavender-based products. With a total surface area of 62,075 sq. ft. (5,767 m2) and spread over two floors, Maison Lavande’s new facilities house the company’s various departments, including a production area, bright administrative spaces and a spacious warehouse section.
Located on the edge of farmland in the Innoparc Albatros in Saint-Eustache, the new building is notable for its distinct geometric lines and an architectural style that perfectly balances rustic and Scandinavian elements. Designed by Syscomax architect Jean-François Dupuis, the building meets the latest energy-saving standards and impresses with the architectural treatment of the façades that opens the building to the outside through abundant fenestration, curtain walls and a ground-floor level offering breathtaking views of the surrounding fields.
It was very important to the leaders of the family-run business that the new production centre reflect both its well-established brand image but also tie in with the rustic style of the agritourism building, also located in Saint-Eustache. This led us to integrate a huge glass atrium, occupying the entire width of the new building, into the design. The shape recalls a house’s gable—an element that holds a central place in the company’s corporate culture. The distinctive space, which contains the administrative offices, features a cathedral ceiling with skylight, an architectural staircase, wood accents and natural light filtered through the surrounding landscape, creating a warm and inviting ambience. What’s more, this section of the building offers a wonderfully unique environment, completely unlike the usual industrial plant style. Visitors to Maison Lavande’s new facilities instantly feel the connection to the company’s iconic image.
After 10 months full of hard work, challenges and completion, Syscomax’s multidisciplinary team is honoured to have taken part in the design and construction of this singular industrial building, which perfectly captures the unique assets and values of this successful Quebec company.
