GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition

Discipline : Architecture

Categories : Special Award / Architecture + Wood : Bronze Certification

Categories : Residential Building / Cottage & Country House : Bronze Certification

La Branche is an extension of the family. An opportunity to come together in a lasting, timeless home, conceived as a family legacy that will pass from generation to generation in the Charlevoix region. Anchored in a quality resort context and a bearer of local values linked to nature, its contemporary expression refers to the architectural, landscape and historical heritage of the region.

La Branche is part of an immersive place, where it’s possible to reconnect with nature and refocus. Like a branch laid down in the forest, the residence, through its structure and natural cladding, creates a volume in dialogue with its environment laid delicately in the landscape. With its organic morphology, sometimes in contact with the ground, sometimes suspended, La Branche, with its singular long, narrow form, offers a variety of interior and exterior programmatic occupations. Immersed in the forest, the organic proportions of the residence allow for a layout that dialogues with the forest. With its floors in continuity with the ground, La Branche does not dominate the site, it integrates into it on an equal footing.

Built entirely from wood, a local, sustainable and renewable material, the residence is like nature within nature. Its exterior, from walls to roof, is cedar cladding. It forms a whole with organic volumetry. This cladding, with its changing coloring due to exposure to sun and weather, marks the passage of time. The interior is covered with plywood from walls to ceilings. Large finishing strips hide the panel joints. This simple, durable element recalls the interior details of the region’s century-old houses.

The relationship between the occupants, La Branche and the site is a continuum based on respect and authenticity.
