Kith

New York City-based lifestyle retailer Kith recently opened its first Canadian store in Yorkville, Toronto. The flagship covers approximately 10,000 square feet over 2 floors and joins the 11 other standalone Kith stores worldwide. SAJO worked with Kith’s founder and Creative Director, Ronnie Fieg, to build the luxury store.

The clean, modern design of the store features Venetian plaster throughout along with Alba Chiara and Verias Green marble. The change rooms and elevators are covered with a vegan leather wallpaper and highlight the classic Kith logo. Windows wrap the south facing façade of the store, flooding it with light and creating a dramatic space in which to showcase Kith merchandise.

The curved staircase that runs between the two floors is manufactured of metal, was preassembled and delivered to the site in three parts. Finished in a walnut veneer with railing of solid walnut, the staircase adds an element of classic elegance to the store. All components of the staircase were stained on site to match the client’s desired sample.

Kith’s main floor houses men’s and women’s apparel and accessories. The second floor features children’s apparel as well as an expansive footwear department. Footwear is organized on wooden shelving finished in a white oak veneer with the backwall being composed of fluted panels of a faux leather fabric glued onto drywall. Some of the shelving is curved, thereby incorporating the footwear display into the overall design of the store.

Also included on the second floor are the kitchen facilities and dining areas for the two foodservice businesses — Kith Treats, a cereal ice cream bar and Sadelle’s restaurant which offers all day dining. Both feature views over Yorkville Avenue.

This airy, light-filled store in Yorkville has been a drawing card for Toronto’s trendsetters since its opening and with constantly updated merchandise and two on place eateries, Kith will continue to be popular.
