Ketch is a solid wood wall station made designed by Le Tenon et la Mortaise in Saint-André-de-Kamouraska. Customizable, it adapts to unique interiors and organizes spaces for working, reading, writing or relaxing.

SIMPLE AND TIMELESS DESIGN

Designed to harmonize with the Clara bookcase, Ketch uses the same structural language with its triangular bracket system. This floating desk thus gets its name from the characteristic shape of the solid wood brackets, reminiscent of the two-masted sailing ship of the same name.

LIGHT AND STRONG

The challenge was to provide a strong, sturdy cantilevered floating desk that was easy to install for anyone with minimum of tools and skills. They decided to use the bottom of the Clara uprights (behind the desk) and install inserts that could accommodate black hex bolts. The elongated grooves on the bottom of the desk then allow the bolts to be inserted to secure them into the studs that are previously fixed to the wall. This installation allows the uprights to be more or less spaced to fit the width of the desk and, if needed, to align with the studs in the wall.

USEFUL

Simple in appearance, it’s the details that enrich it’s user experience: from the space between the wall and the desk to run power cords, to the drawer large enough to hold a laptop, to the height between the desk and the shelf sufficient to accommodate a monitor, or even the sliding shelf above the drawer to create additional workspace, everything was thought of. In the spirit of no-nonsense and slow design, the superfluous was evacuated in an attempt to return to the essential.

CUSTOMIZABLE

As a small company, it was important to be able to offer the maximum amount of customization while allowing for efficient manufacturing methods with reasonable lead times. Ketch is therefore offered in two widths (36″ and 48″) but could easily be custom made. Also offered are different configurations: no drawer, 1 drawer or 2 drawers; and no shelf, 1 shelf or 2 shelves. The spacing matches the Clara bookcase so that the desk module can be installed next to the shelves. Ketch is available in solid unstained red oak, cherry, sugar maple and black walnut.

A DESK FOR THE CREATIVE

As cabinetmakers themselves, the duo knows the hard work and love that goes into making furniture. That’s why it’s essential that these pieces are made to last and adapt as places and spaces change. Elegant, functional, and durable, Ketch comes in as many options as there are creative projects.

Whatever its configuration: lined with drawers and shelves or stripped of everything, the desk manages to retain its minimalist charm. Easy to install, comfortable and warm with its rounded edge and solid wood, Ketch is the perfect desk for lovers of natural materials.
