Hidden or emerging, the oriental philosophy does not only exist in the past as its influence is always felt in the poetry of the present moment. Infusing beauty into this new kind of business model, the design team focused on optimizing the entrance façade of Jin Lai Zudao Foot Spa. Aluminum plates, imitating the grain of wood, reflect the practicality and aesthetics of the place. Moreover, the lighting design transforms the place into a true showcase of oriental aesthetics.
By studying contemporary expressions of regional culture and drawing inspiration from this oriental aesthetic, the designers have literally deconstructed the natural and poetic, humanistic and cultural heritage of the tradition, while infusing a surplus of aesthetic soul into this commercial space. In terms of the color work in the space, the woodgrain-like aluminum panels were arranged so that their warm color neutralized the rather dull feel of the surrounding dark areas. The effect of this warm color is particularly soft and natural under moonlight. By day, as well as by night, Jin Lai seems to emerge from a dreamland modeled from a picturesque design concept.
Zudao Foot Spa has a long history and cultural heritage behind it. The Huangdi Neijing (the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic) and other ancient books mention human foot massage. Later, Hua Tuo, a genius physician of the Han Dynasty, began to refer to this practice as “heart and foot theory” in Huatuo Miji. The design of the space has tried to integrate the historical symbols and culture of foot care by embracing the poetic meaning of daily life.
