Designed to showcase the sculptures of the celebrated artist Linda Covit and the natural ecosystems of the Laurentian Valley, the forecourt of the Evolo X tower welcomes residents and visitors to this prestigious address with contemporary elegance and flair.
Sinuous paths lined with lush, voluptuous embankments lead people to the main entrance of the contemporary tower. Inspired by the ripples of the mighty St. Lawrence River which runs near the site, the forms also echo the sculpture’s perforation motif.
On the ground, cobblestones ebbing from light to dark give the impression of a wave receding from the shore, while also accentuating the effect of chiaroscuro in the space. Careful lighting extends this effect into the evening. Along the perimeter, integrated benches, curvilinear and graceful, offer a seat to contemplate the gardens and the sculptures embraced by the curves of the square. Covit's three sculptures provide soaring focal points along the main axis leading to the front door. Their integrated masts cast dynamic shadows and provides striking interest from the heights of the tower.
Surrounded by a dense residential development, RobitailleCurtis created a space brimming with ecological function above the roof of a garage and on the site where a surface parking lot had been planned. The plant palette is derived from the natural ecosystems of the promontories and coastal meadows that border the river. The great diversity of perennials, shrubs, hardwood trees and conifers offer habitat and the fascination of a changing landscape throughout the year: crab-apple trees, serviceberries, hawthorns, narcissus and squill offer the first spring flowers. Salvias, thistles and echinacea brighten the summer. Dynamic mass plantings of native ornamental grasses celebrate the windy landscape, and together with red maples warm up the fall landscape. Junipers, spruce trees, and bright red dogwood branches enliven the white of winter. Conifer trees grouped and judiciously positioned to mitigate strong prevailing winds on the Pointe Nord peninsula, will grow to create an interior haven. All together, the sensorial richness of this constructed square is that of an enchanting garden.
The Evolo X sculpture garden reinforces the distinctive character of Evolo X, the most prestigious address in the Pointe Nord district of Île-des-Sœurs.
