Iron Lace
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 7th édition
The clients of Gestion René Desjardins had bought a bungalow with the objective to rebuild it. The municipality therefore granted a demolition permit, on the condition that the new building follow the original plan. It was also necessary to triple the living space to meet the needs of the family
Contemporary art lovers, the owners love to host and are the parents of three young adults. Therefore, to ensure a smooth cohabitation, circulation areas had to be fluid. In the vestibule adjacent to the garage, a steel-and- glass staircase leads to the guest suite and the basement, which includes a living room, a steam bath/washroom and a gym.
The ground floor hall is vast and bare, with a view on the garden and a spectacular anthracite iron laced staircase featuring a ramp that particularly charmed the jury. The timeless black and white decor is tempered by a warm monochromatic scheme of grays and accentuated by the few multi-coloured strips of the carpet.
The Iron Lace project overall has an unexpected effect derived from an ultra-graphic setting, and thus wins the Residential Space Award 3,200 ft2 and under. This neutral palette will undoubtedly serve as a canvas for the works of a promising art collection.
