Architecture offers an opportunity not only to add beauty and structure, but also to profoundly improve the conditions of people, communities, society, businesses and the environment.
For the past 34 years, I have been in the field of sports fields and have sold my inventions all over Europe and North America. Since 2002, after patenting my first innovative product of permanent lines for natural grass sports fields, to date more than 15 million now play on fields bordered by my permanent lines on soccer, baseball, rugby and even football fields.
In 2016, after FIFA declared that synthetic lines were not approved in mixed synthetic and natural turf pitches, as I am a persevering person I decided to fight to have my lines approved by them and in 2017 I had changed the laws of FIFA. Were few people in Canada had accomplished to do.
In 2020, after seeing children dying and seriously injuring themselves on sports fields where goals fell on them by the wind or making pull-ups in front of goals and goals falling on them, I decided that something had to be done. Many anchors were on the market, but some used sandbags, dog hooks or different dangerous ways to maintain goals for children. I found it very strange to use such items to save lives. I invented a state-of-the-art soccer goal anchor, very easy to install by city staff or contractors. Secure and tested by certified laboratories. Now installed on natural grass or synthetic field in Canada. My anchoring system can also be used in different applications where architects and engineers need to maintain outdoor furniture, commercial and industrial items. My anchor has pivot system that has a flat side on which you can walk, play, drive or even cut the grass without tripping like hooks sticking out of the ground. It has a hook on the pivot to hold all types of weights
But work is defined by much more than just recognition. It is defined by our ability to explore new ideas and harness technology and data to challenge conventions. It is defined by the evidence that good design can improve business outcomes and support people in their health, well-being and learning. And that's defined by our ability to not only create architecture that makes the world more beautiful, but a smarter, more sustainable, fair and inspiring place.
