Hôtel Monville
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
Inspired by Montreal’s history and fuelled by its energy, the downtown Monville Hotel, designed by ACDF Architecture, is both sophisticated and comfortable, while displaying a truly local visual signature.
The successful and calculated design captures the essence of Montreal’s flair to create a welcoming place for international guests and a greeting card from Montreal. The building’s elongated facade sets itself apart from the other skyscrapers by its vertiginous height and modern optimal illusion motif. Made of prefabricated concrete panels, each window demarcates a room. Monochromatic and elegant, the building’s exterior echoes the common areas’ pure lines and the carefully measured volumes and scales. At street level, a glass cubic entrance entices people walking by to glance in and have their breath taken away by its spectacular bar, reminiscent of yesterday’s city life and vibe.
The jury rewarded the projects for its sound and original integration of refined materials and its dynamism and urbanity. “What a nice way to showcase Montreal!”
