The newly opened Le Central food court is a very eclectic space with the spirit of a lively exterior market, where all food counters differ by their contrasting narrow façades. Ho Lee Chix, the first of its name, is located at the heart of the market and directly faces the main dining area. The central location of the counter gives it great visibility from each angle; a grandiose design statement was essential.
“Poulets frits et chinoiseries” is the theme that dictated the concept. A monumental marquee covered in hundreds of hand painted red flowers, similar to those found on a Chinese plum tree, hangs above the entire kiosk. The Ho Lee Chix signs as well as the flashing neon crane birds capture the attention of passersby coming from all directions and strengthen the stimulating atmosphere found in street markets at night. When approaching the restaurant, you notice the reflective counter façade covered in an iridescent vinyl that fades from a light turquoise to a darker shade of navy. On the right side of the kiosk, a solid brass counter welcomes customers who prefer dining on the spot. Under the gold colored metal counter are nestled five fixed stools, decorated with three levels of fringes that move with the swivel of the seat. On the light blue plaster and ceramic back wall is installed an impressive industrial range covered in a hand-made plaster finish resembling an ancient golden monolith. The lighting is hidden in a series of hanging wooden cages; each one of these home to a unique little bird, adding even more life to this already animated compact space.
