GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition

Discipline : Architecture

Categories : Public Building / Institutional Building : Gold Certification

The project we propose for the Galileo Surveillance and Security Center is driven by a dual ambition: to be at the heart of a high-quality but highly constrained site while offering an ultra-functional tool with exemplary technical availability and reliability performance.

The plot, strictly limited on all four sides by the existing surveillance center, kennel, golf course, and housing, led us to seek maximum compactness in the form of a perfectly rectangular and optimized geometry.

This introverted volume, almost entirely opaque to ensure optimal security, blends into the landscape through the reflections of its shiny black mineral cladding. The materiality of this abstract and precious prism, almost elusive, thus attests to the permanent, confidential, and ultra-secure nature of the installation, and, through the purity of its lines, to the high technical expertise of the process it houses.

It constitutes the setting within which an organization is scrupulously deployed to meet the requirements of a precise and ambitious program. Therefore, the layout of spaces mirrors exactly the functional organization chart: it first ensures the progressive levels of security within the building, with protection against intrusion being our constant concern.

This clarity in the layout of spaces, as well as in technical architecture, is absolutely essential for the operability of a tool as complex as the Galileo center. It has led us to position the main functions in coherent, identifiable, and precisely located entities.

Comfort is an essential component of functionality in our view: all workspaces that allow it benefit from generous natural lighting, thanks to the patios around which they are deployed, according to a rigorous pattern that ensures maximum flexibility in the layout.

This attention to natural lighting is accompanied by the perfect control of solar gains, validated by our simulations. This contributes to our ambitious environmental strategy, which is primarily based on controlling energy consumption through the performance of the selected technical architectures.

Indeed, we have leveraged the great expertise of our group members in the realization of large-scale data centers in our design of production and distribution chains and their redundancy principles. These proven technical choices, validated by numerous previous operations, ensure the high availability expected while greatly limiting operating costs.
