After the success of Fraîchement Bon Villeray, Dupont Blouin signs Fraîchement Bon Jarry, continuing its foray into the realization of neighborhood businesses with an efficient and friendly concept. Wishing to make the routine activity of grocery shopping more fun and pleasant, the architectural duo relies on a design that emphasizes light, curves and color for a smooth, efficient and fluid experience.
Located just around the corner from the Jarry metro station, the grocery store enjoys a prime location. To attract passing customers, the architects created an inviting design with a strong visual impact: through the bay windows, furniture, such as a large fruit tray warmly lit, invites us to enter. From the street, our gaze plunges into the fruit shop, seduced by the colors, the layout and the perspective effect generated by the depth of the premises. From the store, the glass wall keeps us in constant contact with the street and its effervescence, mimicking the lively atmosphere of public markets.
To highlight the building’s art deco frieze and carved stone columns, the architects opted for discreet exterior signage. The door and window surrounds are distinguished by their minimalism and color. The forest green soberly recalls the identity of the business whose name is simply affixed to the frieze, blending with the waves.
Inspired by the Fraîchement Bon logo and the shape of the radish, the design proposes a circulation all in roundness. Instead of getting lost in the maze of aisles, a banded furniture accompanies the circuit and dresses the store: a continuous, elegant and unifying gesture that makes the movements more fluid and simplifies the experience of the route to the maximum. Once again, the architects succeeded in optimizing every square foot of the store while giving a sense of visual lightness. The wide aisles, parallel plan and attention to alignment promote a sense of calm.
Fraîchement Bon Jarry rethinks the convenience store through an aesthetic that is more residential than commercial. The curves of the furniture bring a softness and conviviality that contrasts with the rectilinear forms of commercial spaces. LED lighting in warmer colors was chosen to create a warmer atmosphere. The design highlights the delicatessen products and requires more frequent attention and presence of the grocers in the store. This design helps improve service, maintenance and human contact with the shopkeeper.
The choice of pre-painted steel for the checkout furniture, the refrigerator and the display baskets makes it easier to wash the surfaces. To balance the cooler, industrial aesthetic of the metal, the architects opted for wood furniture and a crisp color palette. Between soft green and forest green, the tone is plant-based and fresh, reminiscent of the fresh products served there. A clear ceramic floor brings light to the space. To face the Quebec winters and its traditional muddy snow, the tiles are covered with a custom-made carpet, matching the green of the furniture. The accent colors and the bright aesthetic contribute to the happy and soothing atmosphere of the place.
