Machine and Metaphor in Poetry – Shunde EW Motorcycle Showroom, SN-A Transcendent Architecture
As the largest motorcycle club in China, EW CLUB was founded in 2015. When SN-A (SUPERNATURE Architecture Design) was first entrusted with the project, they aimed to create a unique design that would convey the culture and brand spirit of motorcycle lifestyle. Beyond emphasizing the themes of heavy metal, motorcycle maintenance and modification, we combined coffee culture and mechanical dynamics to imbue the cool architectural space with a lively spirit, allowing people to feel the breath of the space and the charm of the machines.
This project is located in an industrial area near the highway in Shunde, Foshan.The links in all directions are very convenient. The site is empty and will not disturb the public.
Machine | Metaphor
Metaphor is a figure of speech that uses one thing to refer to another. Modern poetry, in particular, has an important characteristic of breaking the habitual connections between words and phrases and linking seemingly unrelated things together. The building façade is designed with the Kawasaki motorcycle’s modeling features as the design language, transforming it into a maintenance structure of the façade. The shape of the building is cut and deconstructed to create a structure of interplay between the real and the virtual.
People | Vehicles | Flow
The interior of the building is divided into two experiential flows of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, defining the island-shaped display area and the radial traffic area. The flow lines also connect various entrances, linking entrance halls, coffee shops, whisky bars, motorcycle beauty, horsepower testing rooms, and other spaces.
Space | Communication
From the perspective of spatial sectioning, the hollow space promotes visual communication between the upper and lower public spaces. The spatial form extracts the motorcycle’s dynamic linearity as a structural way to shape space and express a sense of transportation, speed, and straightness.
Diversity | Space
The motorcycle showroom integrates a series of services such as motorcycle exhibition, after-sales service, popular coffee spots, whisky clubs, temporary art exhibition areas, VIP rooms, etc. In the process of comprehensive management, it is always guided by the passion for motorcycle street culture and links various spaces, establishing an interdependent relationship between people, vehicles, and space.
People | Motorcycle | Physical Platform
On the road, motorcycles usually take the form of a means of transportation, allowing us to travel poetically between point A and B. In the motorcycle club space, however, teams establish a symbiotic relationship between people, motorcycles, and space through various activities, such as coffee, friendship, shared experiences, online interactions, etc. The spatial design gives these relationships a physical spatial structure.
