GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 15th edition

Discipline : Communication & Branding

Categories : Environmental Design / Mural & Artistic Installation : Silver Certification

Intended for a multinational high-tech company, this mandate consisted in designing the interior of a corporate space with several functions: customer areas and employee areas, spread over two floors. The client wished for a modern and attractive workplace, so LEMAYMICHAUD designed and painted a series of four murals in three locations with very different atmospheres.

The particularity of this intervention is the close collaboration between the teams of interior and graphic design in order to develop a completely integrated concept. In these interior spaces, where the flora and industrial past of the city of Montreal are celebrated, along with the numerous panoramas offered by the location of this office space, these artistic interventions enhance the premises by their visual flavor and impact.

Present at the reception area and in two café spaces, these three locations use themes that embody Montreal: The Urban Jungle, in the reception area, refers to Mount Royal; The Industrial Jungle, in the 14th floor lounge, refers to the industrial legacy and its ghost signs; Windows on the City, in the 15th floor hub, refers to the city’s many vistas and points of interest. The latter is applied to two surfaces of brick walls and is expressed in a composition of flat shapes that evoke certain monuments, silhouettes or places in the city, while being framed in variable shapes that in turn evoke different types of windows that can be found while walking the streets. The bright colors animate the spaces while being in harmony with the furniture.

One floor down in the customer area, the other two murals are more restrained in appearance without diminishing in impact: on one side, signs aged using faux-finish and washes painting techniques bring to life these compositions of giant typographic characters, entirely designed and drawn by LEMAYMICHAUD. On the other side, at the reception desk, the visitor is presented with a composition of larger-than-life botanical elements as soon as he enters, a composition that adds texture, softness and character to this reception area.
