GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition

Discipline : Interior Design

Categories : Residence / Residential Tower & Condominium Project - Common Space : Bronze Certification

The ENCORE project is a renovation of an existing mixed-use building, commercial on the first floor and rental units of 135 units on the upper floors. Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, the client had a desire to bring the project to a level of luxury inspired by classic Manhattan hotels. To meet the client’s needs and reflect the life of the neighborhood, we wanted a timeless palette of materials, lines and moods that evoked a sophisticated and elegant design.

From the entrance, the tone of the project is evident with the imported italian marble reception counter, the Lambert et Fils brass fixtures and the fireplace with its imposing marble mantle. The black woodwork and smoke-stained mirrors add a sober and chic touch. While the library on either side of the fireplace with its lighting and collectibles, carefully chosen by the owner, balances to complete the warmer and more welcoming touch of the lobby.

The pool, located on the 17th floor, has a breathtaking view of downtown. We wanted to emphasize the abundance of light by choosing materials with pale tones. The black glossy fabric over the pool creates a reflection and duplicates the elements of the city, the plants, the columns and amplifies the effect of height. Despite the existing constraints, these interventions optimize the strengths of this room.

The urban chalet located on the 18th floor gives exclusive access to the terrace and its panorama of the city. It features a living room subdivided by a fireplace and wall-mounted TV, work tables facing the view and a library reminiscent of the entrance hall.

Finally, we wanted to give a nod to the history of the Benisti family, which is primarily involved in the clothing industry. On each floor, at the exit of the elevators, we integrated a carpet with houndstooth patterns, referring to the classic fabrics, a distinctive sign of the richest in clothing fashion.
