COLLABORATIVE WORKSPACE DESIGN….
A large-scale project for a mining company focused on expansion and development!
Eldorado Gold Quebec is a company of nearly 480 employees, are established in 3 countries and make the exploration and extraction of gold. In the Val d\\’Or region, the management, administration and human resources team was already located in a building when an offer was made to occupy a new prime location! This move was an opportunity to reinvent the living environment and create mixed-use spaces. In total, some thirty people live in this new work environment using the latest advances in comfort, style and technology!
A transformation of the premises in keeping with the brand image!
The design of the layout was based on all the individual and collective work space needs in order to create an environment that allows the team to collaborate at an optimal level.
The management section was redesigned with a focus on active design, quiet zones, brightness and interconnection spaces, flexible and modular.
To do this, walls were abolished and others built to give a completely different function to the existing rooms. All the collective spaces were reviewed and arranged according to the new design: electricity, plumbing, ventilation, lighting, windows, stairs and direction in the building and even the exterior identification signs.
No major transformation for the administrative section, it has been brought up to date by bringing comfort and well-being to employees. In addition, they share the kitchen and benefit from common areas to enhance collaboration between the two teams.
Individual spaces…
The offices in the periphery have been renewed in terms of floors, walls, lighting and ventilation. The CEO\\’s office was completely transformed into a modern, uncluttered workspace with high-end furniture and hidden storage, all in absolute comfort. Floor heating, motorized sunshades, telephone charging on the desk surface, wire covers, furniture with a silky, durable, hygienic and easily cleaned finish, wall-mounted television, a small meeting area and a hidden closet space. All these functional elements add value to the design.
Communal spaces…
Whether it be the building entrance on the first floor, the stairs, the reception and reception area (the offices being located on the 2nd floor), the kitchen, the large conference room, the co-working area, the lounge area and the circulation areas, the challenge was the dimensions and the space to be redistributed according to the constraints of the building.
The spectacular transformations :
– the former printing room into a kitchen,
– of the lunch room into a majestic reception area,
– and the 3 offices into a large conference room with kitchenette,
were designed to maximize the space while taking into account the restrictions.
Thus, the kitchen meets all the needs in terms of functionality, appliances and ergonomics, however the narrow space does not allow for adequate seating for the number of users. To counteract this, the overall space has been redesigned to offer a variety of seating arrangements that make dining time very enjoyable when shared in the lounge area or co-working area with colleagues!
The large conference room with technological equipment to connect and interact remotely can accommodate 32 people. The 32\\’ long table offers all the necessary seating, however to counter the distance and ensure adequate visuals, 4 55\\’\\’ televisions were strategically positioned to maintain individual comfort and ergonomics. Acoustics were also a key concern to ensure good communication and understanding during meetings. All materials were carefully selected to ensure user comfort.
The design of the RECEPTION is the first point of contact for visitors and suppliers who frame the brand image and instantly discover the culture. For Eldorado Gold Quebec, it is the reflection of several distinctions and awards for commitment and growth. To showcase the wealth and values of this mining company, the spacious design of the reception area was intended to be noble and majestic with a 24\\’ long quartz countertop and a mix of wood with gold beams in the grain. This beautiful and elegant countertop encompasses all the features such as locking systems and facilitates the storage and organization of all the equipment such as computers that are meant to be discreet. Strategically positioned, this well-organized reception area controls access to the building.
The reception and waiting area for guests and visitors, right in the reception area, tells a story, it is a place of differentiation and personalization that presents an authentic experience of the brand by communicating its culture through a wall photo of their site.
The CO-WORKING CORNER is divided into two sections, an open space and a closed space, and is partitioned in glass to create a personalized communication. The open space can be used as a discussion area or a gathering point for mobile workers. This workspace is designed with the latest technology to connect remotely and interact. The closed space was created with a carefully thought out balance of comfort, style and functionality for more personalized meetings.
The COIN LOUNGE, inspires a sense of pride…
A beautiful design to create a meaningful connection in a warm atmosphere in addition to fostering engagement. A great mix of networking, meeting points and celebrations such as happy hours. With the new ceiling/floor windows this dynamic space optimizes the entry of sunlight and energy in addition to connecting with nature. Employees have the opportunity, during the day, or even for lunch, to benefit from this space which by a feeling of well being, engenders productivity and creativity.
This development project has a strong impact on the well-being and health of the occupants and allows the employer to position itself as an industry leader. Investing in the individual by offering a living environment that makes people want to go to work allows for a return on investment, better productivity, employee satisfaction which translates into presenteeism, and attracting new talent.
Collaborative spaces allow you to mix and match, enhancing the productivity and performance of teams and individuals by offering a variety of layouts. Thanks to the discretion and concentration of individual offices and the unplanned interactive meetings in the collective spaces, Eldorado Gold Quebec has been able to promote cooperative and flexible work!
