GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 7th édition

Dikini studio is a collaboration between Philippe Carreau and Eugénie Manseau. Sharing an equal interest in household and urban objects, the duo aspires to beautify and improve life in public spaces.

Dimanche (Sunday) is line they dreamt up for the 30th anniversary of Équiparc, a Quebec manufacturer of urban furniture; it makes reference to the day off spent with family outdoors. The collection includes a bench, a picnic table, garbage and recycling bins, a decorative vegetable crate and a bike rack. It was designed to create a friendly and lively public space, with a touch of elegance.

The white oak is enhanced by invisible joints and softened with rounded angles. Whether in a rural, natural setting or a contemporary and urban space, the sober design is versatile and blends in any type of environment. “Dikini offers an innovative design using a language that suits several locations, said the jury. It has an unusual sophistication for this type of urban furniture. The line is fair, clean and well balanced, with an interesting retro side.”

In addition to winning the Urban Furniture Award in the Industrial Design category, presented by the GRAND PRIX DU DESIGN, for their Dimanche collection, Dikini was also in the spotlight in 2012, when it received the Phyllis- Lambert Design Montreal grant. The grant is intended to reward the talent of young local designers and support a professional development project.
