Dans l’escarpement
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
This audacious house, built in Saint-Faustin-du-LacCarré by YH2 Yiacouvakis Hamelin architectes, is an all-glass-and-wood pavilion, containing all the living spaces of a home while floating seamlessly in breathtaking surroundings.
The house is made entirely of dark wood and clear glass. Shade and light make their magic, as they do in the forest. Eight wooden arches structure the floating box and create rhythm in the space. While the ceilings and walls are made of African sapele, the floor coverings, extending to both interior and exterior living quarters, are made of Brazilian walnut. Wood is the hands-down hero here. Showcased in kitchen cabinets, staircases, beams and columns, wood has been chosen both for its resistance and for the exceptional warmth it bestows upon this nature retreat.
The jury was swept away by the audacity of the project, the combination of wood essences and the finesse of details of this haven atop a steep slope, where nature is all-mighty.
