The photography of the College of New Caledonia Heavy Mechanical Trades Training Facility places emphasis on the industrial and robust material, selection, natural light, and refined design that create a learning environment for students of heavy machinery mechanics.
Designed by office of mcfarlane biggar architects + designers, the project is a LEED Gold-certified educational training facility in Prince George, British Columbia.
The key characteristic of the building is its weathered steel facade with repetitive panels that draw inspiration from the large steel tracks many heavy pieces of machinery use to move.
The inside of the building features classrooms, workshops, engine testing rooms, and storage for heavy equipment. The images photographed during the depths of winter enhance the feeling of the tough exterior and reflect a student’s perspective engaging with the facility and provide intimate viewpoints of the building’s architectural impact.
