GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition

Discipline : Landscape & Territories

Categories : Landscape Architecture / Landscape Architecture - Cultural & Institutional Project : Platinum Winner

Collège Charles-Lemoyne

Through a thorough analysis of the school\’s existing site, it was agreed that Collège Charles-Lemoyne needed a refreshing programming of its outdoor space. As such, the project provides students with a quality environment for studying and acquiring a nourishing and dynamic social life. This is materialized through the proposed landscaping and the integration of new equipment and furniture.

Throughout the different subspaces on the site, such as the open space entrance and the school\’s interior courtyard, the landscaping stands out for its language of forms. It offers smooth and natural circulation for students while creating areas for relaxation and reflection. Rounded triangular forms are accentuated by concrete walls with multiple functionalities such as seating, planting area, and space delimitation. The landscaping design is imposed throughout the different spaces of the project to create a sense of unity for the entire school. In contrast to these organic shapes, the paving pattern is a reflection of the orderly and rectilinear architectural language of the building in question. This pattern creates harmony with the school\’s architecture, forms a visual continuity between the landscape and the school, and makes users\’ passage more rhythmic and directs them towards entry points.

Through the integration of different equipment and furniture, the landscaping offers students a healthy and active lifestyle. The addition of picnic tables provides a space for them to gather and discuss, thus helping them grow with a flourishing social life. Additionally, the implementation of bike racks and sports activity furniture, such as ping-pong tables, encourages them to promote daily physical activity. Overall, this equipment and furniture are integrated in a way that follows the project\’s forms and shapes in space, thus creating a cohesive design.
