GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition

Discipline : Architecture

Categories : Residential Building / Cottage & Country House : Bronze Certification

Categories : Residential Building / Private House > 2 000 pi2 (> 185 m2) : Bronze Certification

The PORTE-BONHEUR CHALET opens up to the landscape with an admiring gaze upon the majestic Saint Lawrence River, nestled in the mountains to which it is attached, within its Charlevoix setting.

Its style, both modern, timeless, and current, asserts its fluid horizontality framing the magnificent view of the river and Île aux Coudres: large windows offering a striking panorama in all its majesty, a simple and compact form enriched by a play of vertical and horizontal cladding, a single-sloped roof, and cathedral ceiling.

The house was designed with the sun’s path in mind; its bright interior transports us into a warm atmosphere with a unique character. Clean and minimalist lines, healthy and durable materials; everything has been carefully considered down to the smallest details for the family, blending intimacy and conviviality, interior and exterior in harmony.

The ground floor hosts the living spaces: on the southeast side, a very functional kitchen with its walk-in pantry, and the dining room. A large terrace topped with a retractable awning has been arranged on the south side to not limit the view of the river and to extend the space of the house to enjoy the beautiful season. The staircase reigns in the center with its large window extending the view to the west to capture the afternoon sunlight. The entrance to the north, with its vestibule and amenities, opens onto the large open space.

On the garden level, the master suite is nestled beneath the terrace with its private bathroom and dressing room. The other 2 bedrooms are separated by a family room with large sliding doors that can be transformed into an additional guest room and provide a multifunctional space – office, TV room. The bathroom is divided into 2 sections with its vanity section and its private shower and toilet section allowing for judicious and practical use as it can be used by 4 people at the same time.

Passive solar, ecological, energy-efficient, with its superior insulation, its diamond-polished heated slab; its ecological materials, the call to local artisans; all efforts have focused on sustainability, comfort, health, and a positive impact on the environment and the well-being and happiness of the residents.
