At the origin of the project
Following the virtualization of communications and the massive advent of telecommuting, we felt the need to create an innovative, attractive and unifying workplace that met the real needs of our teams. It was in this spirit that the head office was conceived, a campus where spa employees as much as head office employees are invited to create, learn, innovate, and grow together.
The head office is a place where employees can work together, and where they can learn from each other.
The building in which the Strøm campus has settled is bordered by the banks of the Chambly Basin. The century-old building has had several vocations over the years. It has a soul and history all its own.
Materiality
Raw, aged and imperfect materials were the initial source of inspiration for the conception and design direction of the campus. The stone on the floor, the wood covering the first floor, the massive columns and beams structuring certain spaces were preserved or restored with a view to the building’s durability, then integrated into the future vision of this space. The existing has been enhanced, and the past celebrated, in keeping with the way each of our spas is designed and built. On campus, this legacy is the foundation on which the workspace inaugurated in August 2023 has taken root.
A place flooded with light
During the demolition work, we discovered a remarkable ceiling height beneath the existing interior structure, and were pleasantly surprised by the impression of grandeur it gave and the luminosity it conferred on the space. We therefore decided to exploit this asset to the full on the upper floor, preferring glass partitions to gypsum walls for the division of offices, so as to allow natural light to circulate freely, throughout the building.
Attention to detail
Lighting has also been thought through to the last detail. Several fixtures, including the 40-foot-long one in the central corridor upstairs, create a vanishing point that highlights the length of the building. In other places, decorative fixtures give the impression of floating in space, lending lightness and refinement to the design. The exploitation of warm materials including wood, adapted and diversified furniture, a palette of warm tones and the addition of vegetation to the interior all contribute to creating a welcoming place for employees.
Thought for every need
The campus brings together a variety of spaces to suit everyone’s needs. Open and closed offices and meeting rooms of different sizes facilitate periods of exchange and brainstorming. In addition, collaborative spaces shared by various departments create a new synergy between teams. In the same spirit, a vast lounge area where all campus employees converge offers an impressive view of the Chambly Basin. The lounge is a popular place to work in relaxed mode, to share a lunch or even an aperitif at the end of the day. In this regard, employees can also take advantage of the restaurant on the building’s first floor, which, in addition to being open to the public, is available to teams for lunch or coffee throughout the day.
In summary
With this new waterfront campus, we wanted to offer a working environment that mirrors that deployed in each of our spas, where nature and architecture meet. The communion of the rational and the emotional, the health of the body but also of the mind, in order to be and remain focused on balance: this is the future of working at Strøm.
