Café District – Tour Deloitte

For Bipède, the design of this coffee shop, located in the foyer of the Deloitte Tower, adjacent to the Windsor train station and the Bell Center, represented a definite challenge. The business needed to be elegantly integrated into this high-end downtown Montreal space and meet the lessor’s high æsthetic and technical standards. Through the skilful interplay of mass and volume, and of the solids and empty spaces that form the elements of the foyer’s environment, the café blends perfectly into the space. To achieve this, the designers conceived a lighting structure crowning and highlighting the counter, reminiscent of the mullions in the divider wall that serves as a backdrop. Additionally, the materials chosen recall those already present, such as the birch-veneered wall panels and the marbled reception desk.

The result dazzled the judges, who were aware that arranging this type of space presented particular challenges that added to the complexity of the project. “A brilliantly executed challenge; the business is perfectly integrated into the existing site”; “Beautiful functional and timeless design.”
