Folia design has been the reference in horticulture in Quebec City for over 30 years and needed a larger, revamped store space to expand its plant and product offerings. To expand the sales area, one of the warehouse spaces adjacent to the existing store was used. The rounded archway delineates the existing portion of the store from the new back section. The neutral colors of the ambience allow the greenery of the plants to stand out and the plastered paint gives the space a raw effect. In the design process, we had a desire to keep the orange touch of the existing industrial metal shelving. The curtain behind the counter is a reminder of this accent color at the front of the store and helps hide the storage doors behind it. To create a more versatile area in the back and take advantage of the height of the ceiling, large sliding doors were added in front of the shelves, the blurred effect of the doors gives a transparency on the plants behind. The height was also exploited by the addition of a taupe-colored integrated furniture for the larger plants. This large volume is complemented by lower plastered furniture that connects the back section to the front section of the store. By creating custom furniture that is both beautiful and functional, it is easy to rearrange the space to accommodate the merchandise. The small round custom tables at the front of the cash register can be moved and rearranged according to the products displayed. Folia design’s new store definitely stands out from the rest of the « Plant shops » with its small and larger design details.
