GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
BDO accounting and advisory services requested the talents of Lemay’s transdisciplinary team to design its Toronto offices. Principles of striking design and sustainable construction are at the heart of this important project, concerned with the well-being of employees. The result? An æsthetically pleasing, optimal and functional space, reflecting BDO’s character. As such, the designers chose nuances of contrasting black and white, mixed with noble materials like stone, glass, wood and cloth. The concept rests on biophilic design principles: plenty of natural lighting, ventilation, and elements incorporating living vegetation to help reduce the stress of employees while increasing creativity and contributing to overall health.
The jury commended the designers for making such audacious design choices for this relatively conventional workplace: “The plant wall is spectacular,” commented one juror, “and it feels like the outdoors is being integrated inside. There’s such a precision in the design, bringing a feeling of well-being and a true breath of fresh air!”
