BBC Earth Experience

By : Tinker imagineers

GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 17th edition

Discipline : Interior Design : Grand Winner

Categories : Culture, Sport & Leisure / Museum & Gallery : Platinum Winner

For over two years, Tinker imagineers teamed up with world-class players Moon Eye Productions, Live Nation (UK) and BBC studios for BBC Earth Experience. A top-notch immersive attraction offering visitors the chance to experience the extraordinary diversity of our planet. Featuring footage from the BBC series Seven Worlds, One Planet. Including bespoke Sir David Attenborough narration. Visitors can walk through the wonders of Planet Earth on a microscopic scale, be immersed in spectacular drone footage, and even journey down to the ocean floor.

With the BBC Earth Experience, the collaborating parties aimed to convey the significance of nature. They intended to make the public more aware of the world they inhabit, emphasizing the need for preservation for future generations. The goal was to underscore the importance of biodiversity and inspire greener choices.

Tinker imagineers was responsible for the experience design and audiovisual design. In March 2023, a venue opened in London, and later that year, in October, the BBC Earth Experience Melbourne saw the light.

Visitors take a majestic 360-degree audio visual journey as they marvel and explore iconic landscapes and connect with mesmerising animals on this epic adventure bringing environments to life. From fireflies putting on a spectacular light show in North America, to snub nosed monkeys huddling together to stay warm in Asia, and hungry hamsters fighting to keep their food in Europe, visitors get to experience our seven continents in all their glory, like never before.

Footage, including new material, is projected on multiple multi-angle screens using the very latest digital screen technology. More than 60 ultra large projections simultaneously show the stories. These projection screens are arranged around the visitors in three main areas. Visitors can walk around and discover the stories from multiple perspectives.

Complementing the immersive main hall, the attraction offers interactive break-out rooms. One of them is designed to test the visitors’ courage. Delve into the mysterious realm of insects and extraordinary creatures, challenging your daring. With a simple hand gesture, you control an interactive button, determining the depth of your exploration. These engaging interactive elements add another layer to the BBC Earth Experience, empowering visitors to actively participate in the discovery of our planet’s wonders. Furthermore, at the Vista Stage, visitors gaze over vast sand dunes, oceans, and observe the world from a distant perspective. This panoramic view provides an awe-inspiring experience, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the grandeur of our planet’s diverse landscapes.

This ground-breaking attraction offers a transformative experience that allows audiences of every age to feel like they have stepped into the natural world. Losing themselves in boundless wonder as they travel to far flung places. The sustainability-focused design uses recyclable and reusable materials, LED projectors powered by renewable energy, and cotton screens repurposed after use.
