Located on the first floor of an office building on St-Charles Street in Longueil, the Bistro aux Aurores reflects on the food offer within a business complex. Its personality, in mutation throughout the day, addresses an aesthetic adapted to its different clientele. Sails hanging from the ceiling, at the central circular bar and the service counter, swing from a mesh ribbon. The lower layer projects a soft white or colored indirect light that is controllable and addressable. While morning ambiences call for cool whites tones, the mesh will gradually color to provide a saturated and dynamic experience at dawn. Magnetic, these auroras naturally become the anchor to a circular layout and gradually intensifies
Metallic, aluminum, glass and mirror surfaces located at the perimeter contribute to reflect and ensure an immersive experience inside this boutique, restaurant and bar space. The clear and luminous surfaces are devices to carry and project the hues pulsating from the aurora.
The goal of the client, Groupe Mercille, was to offer the tenants of the office space a coffee shop in the morning, a restaurant at lunch, and a bar in the evening, while offering a boutique space full of ready-to-eat and gift ideas. This evolving space aims to become a real destination within walking distance of the Sherbrooke University campus.
Through a sensitive approach to lighting, the design team succeeded in developing a dynamic, timeless, gender neutral and multigenerational proposal that can be adapted to different clientele and times of day. Also, the lighting of the auroras can be customize for when users of the building are renting the space.
The aesthetics of the layout and furniture, made up of simple and curved volumetrics, planes and solids, is not without a link to the post-modern lobby in which the bistro is inserted. This design is rooted in the respect and the dialogue with its surrounding environment
Open to its business community as well as to users from the outside, the aux Aurores Bistro will become a destination for meetings and exchanges, with a plural, changing and dynamic aesthetic.
