The use of overlapping light and shadow creates a secret ecological journey into a fantastic rainforest.
The color beige was chosen as the basic architectural tone, a choice that meshes well with the hue and biodiversity of the forest plants and the surrounding urban culture. The design team also opted for a bold use of metal, leather, stone or hemp-based cladding to promote a symbiosis between the building and its users.
We were inspired by the volumetry and characteristics of camphor leaves in order to model the architectural configuration of the project’s outline. Following this principle, we implemented a white spiral staircase to furnish the heart of the central hall like an eye-catching sculpture, completely breaking the spatial pattern and presenting a truly vibrant cubist work of art in this open space.
The spiral staircase is both powerful and gentle. You can feel its geometric aesthetic and rhythmic fluidity as you walk down it or up it throughout your journey.
The arching characteristic of the leaf’s contours connects the spatial structure with a gentle linearity and respect for proportion. This spatial structure blossoms and seems to extend wirelessly to the sky in a back and forth motion, creating a visual sensation of a time machine.
The transparent glass roof on top emphasizes the connection between nature and the interior of the project. The modeling elements in the top of the wall are inspired by the “mortise and tenon” elements of the Hunan opera stage, featuring traditional elements through modern design, allowing for the integration of elements of history with contemporary materials and forms. A lighting system was used to clearly delineate the different volumes of the project.
