Boîte à fleurs (B.À.F.), aka Flower Box was created as a result of numerous issues that designer Martine Brisson has encountered as a landscaper. Finding raised garden beds that are durable, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing was difficult therefore she decided to promote her own line of designer planters.
B.À.F. is the result of several years of research and development. When considering a roof-top terrace, the question of weight is of the utmost importance. Wet soil is heavy so the container in which it sits mustn’t weigh too much. Made of aluminum, B.À.F. is light, solid and corrosion-resistant making it suitable for four-season use.
Though elegant on its feet, B.À.F. can also be placed directly in the dirt if need be. The legs of the planter are not only aesthetic, they also play a unique and integral role in the irrigation system of the box in addition to housing lighting cables. Upon nightfall, an opening on the facade of the flower box lights up, creating an enjoyable and ambient atmosphere. With the non-electric option, this sleek aperture can be adorned with candles or lanterns to give a similar effect. The interstice creates depth and a notion of softness in the piece, giving it an extra dose of personality. When unlit, the planter has a somewhat mysterious appearance and when lit up at night, something magical emerges.
Available in a standard format, B.À.F. also comes in various sizes and colours in order to adapt to diverse outdoor design projects, be it for residential or urban use, a roof-top terrace or in a green alleyway. With a height of 36 inches, it respects the measurement by-laws regarding planters that sometimes take the place of fences in front of a residence. The planter’s generous dimensions make it large enough to contain small trees such as a Japanese Maple as well as full-shaped plants such as an Italian Rose Bush or even a vegetable garden. When empty, the flower box can be easily transported by one person. Comprised of a container, legs, and four screws, this piece of outdoor furniture is very easy to assemble.
