Charles HENLEY
Charles Henley NLAA CPHD has been practicing architecture in a wide variety of building types throughout his career. From custom houses, to commercial offices, to industrial buildings, to RCMP Detachments in Canada and the arctic, to the Faculty of Medicine and Genetics Building at Memorial University of Newfoundland, to The Rooms – Provincial Museum, Art Gallery and Archives. He has varied experience leading and collaborating with many talented colleagues. Charlie has a passion for the built environment that uniquely characterizes Newfoundland and Labrador. As an owner, senior architect and principal at PHB Group Inc and most recently Stantec, he has over 40 years of industry experience. Through his direct, no nonsense yet diplomatic approach he brings intense passion to all projects large and small. A past President of NLAA, Charlie has spent all of his career volunteering with the council and committees of Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects. He has sat on national committees promoting architecture internationally for the last 20-25 years. Charlie is a 5-time Southcott Heritage Award winner. Just recently he spent a year teaching at the College of The North Atlantic and now has his own sole proprietor practice in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Always wanting to stay current and passionate about architects’ roles in the global climate crisis he went back to school himself and completed the International Passive House Designer Certification and has two passive house projects underway.
