GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 15th edition
Discipline : Interior Design : Award of the Year Winner, Grand Winner
Categories : Commercial Space / Showroom : Gold Certification, Platinum Winner
The showroom reflects the current urban lifestyle that Montauk Sofa has created over the years. 3553 St-Laurent Boulevard is a combination of 3 heritage buildings located between St-Laurent and St-Dominique, that were joints . 25% of the roof was removed on the St-Laurent side to create a beautiful green space. This surprising garden on symbolic St-Laurent Boulevard creates an enchanted public space. On such a dense street, the unexpected garden draws the eye to an imposing 3-story glass facade. The original outer brick facade was restored to its original state, juxtaposing a balance between the past and the present. Past the garden, one is surprised by a glass bridge that crosses a water feature that falls to the basement, designed to let the natural light in. The basement was excavated to recover the square footage utilized by the garden. Upon entering the first floor, we see an impressive space, designed with an undulating ceiling, reminiscent of waves. The ceiling concept does double duty by concealing ventilation, electricity, and lighting, while giving a sense of height to a space with a ceiling of 10 feet.
The hand rubbed texture cement walls absorb the light, allowing the objects sold, to shine. The back section of the floor was removed on each floor creating an effect of grandeur and height and allowing the light to pass through. Although all floors are similar in look, the way the sunlight enters creates a magical effect on each level. The basements wall to wall of windows, flood the space with natural light and showcase the waterfall. From the basement to the third floor, the simplicity of the space makes us appreciate the objects on display, transporting us into a realm of calm and tranquility. The showroom is a playful representation of beauty that Montauk Sofa sees as an ideal.
