In 2021, publisher Saint-Jean Éditeur and author Geneviève Pettersen launched Je suis pas cheffe, pis toi non plus (“I’m No Chef, and Neither Are You”), a cookbook presenting simple and comforting recipes in a relaxed manner. Throughout the book Pettersen revisits often-snubbed classics of home-cooking, from the beloved grilled cheese sandwich to tasty spare ribs, easy-to-make recipes that actually fit into the rhythms of everyday life. Je suis pas cheffe isn’t intended to be a traditional cookbook; rather, it defends a democratic vision of food and cooking.
The source of the book's originality lies in the fact that Pettersen is a novelist and columnist by trade; many of the recipes are accompanied by her tasty comments and wry observations. The book’s design focuses on illustrating these little stories with a fun and amusing tone.
