Spring is back and finally replaces winter! Nature is turning green again, the ground is thawing, perennials are reappearing … Soon the birds, the bees, crops and all the wonders of beekeeping and local agriculture will be back in our backyards and fields! Did you know that bees participate in the pollination of 75% of the main crops that humans eat? And that is in addition to producing revenues of 25 million in honey and derivatives!
In 2020, Industrial Design firm Alto Design won the GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN Award in industrial design, sustainable development and ecodesign for the BEECON smart sensor, a control tool for the Nectar ecosystem.
BEECON is a wireless sensor that measures the temperature, relative humidity, audio and movements of the hive to assess its health.
The integration of such a tool which would, in no way disturb the bees or add to the beekeeper’s tasks, represented a big challenge, brilliantly taken up by Alto Design and materialized by a small object!
Innovative, the tool is distinguished by its sobriety and its visual integration into its natural habitat. Bravo Alto and a good season to the bees living in one of Quebec’s 60,000 beehives and to all beekeepers, here and abroad!
