Respectful transformation of a semi-detached centennal home in Saint-Lambert guided by the work and family needs of the new owners.
With a voluntarily sober exterior, the heart of the home marks a grandiose moment where a family gathers to eat, run and laugh–a permeable and animated space where homebound activities take place under a soft, zenethial light.
The reorganized and reimagined spaces create distinct yet connected rooms that form a favoured ensemble. A rhythmic alternation is created between convening and intimate spaces, punctuated by cedar modules for storage and separation. A passage continues this connection between the master bedroom and the kids’ bedrooms upstairs. It is composed of slatted boards that filtre light, just as the guard-rails do. These are repeated outdoors to create resonance between the interior and exterior spaces. The living spaces and the vertical circulation are in constant interaction thanks to the light wrought-metal guard-rails. The old home, too small to comfortably accommodate the whole family, gained two rooms on the upper floor as well as an office space on the main floor and a playroom in the basement.
The property is now characterized by its design that optimizes comfort and function. Previously closed in on itself, the house preserved its heritage characteristic all while offering renewed views and light experiences from the inside.
