GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Architecture
Categories : Residential Building / Single-Family Home : Silver Certification
This residence stands out in an urban setting along the Prairies river on Gouin street in the city of Montreal. Located on a corner street, it allows to place the garages in the back of the house. Being closer to the neighbors, a U shape layout provides much more privacy in a central courtyard. Facing north and dealing with the sunlight in the backyard, the window openings were thoughtfully disposed to implement the daylight in the living areas without compromising the captivating views of the front waterways. The outline of the main floor is an open space allowing a visual breakthrough from the front to the back of the house. The kitchen sitting East provides an overview of the living areas. A giant monolith rising over to the second floor is featured in the living room combining the design between the two floors. A footbridge connects the private areas of the master bedroom from the rest of the rooms. By taking the stairs you will find a bird’s eye view on the living room. The secondary bedrooms are positioned so that they go over the main floor terrace creating a pleasant outdoor dinning area underneath. They all include a private balcony to enjoy the summer creating one-of-a-kind residence to raise a family.
